What is perimeter security?

Perimeter security is the installation of a monitored pulse fence around the edge of your site which helps to keep it secure. The fence has two key purposes – to provide deterrence, and to give you awareness if someone does try to enter your site.

Gallagher pulse fences are made up of energized, high-tensile wire that can be constructed inside a new fence or added to an existing one. The wires are monitored and will trigger an alert as soon as they are touched.

How does it work?

Gallagher pulse fences use sensors that continuously measure and report on the tension of the wire, as well as monitor for vibrations. Using this data, the system differentiates between intruders and disturbances from wildlife or harsh weather conditions. When an intruder is detected, a notification is instantly sent to Gallagher Command Centre.

If the wire is energized, energized pulses are regularly sent through it. This delivers a short but safe shock to an intruder who touches it, making it almost impossible to climb the fence. A perimeter fence can be zoned so you can adjust voltage levels for different areas.

Is it safe?

Gallagher perimeter products are designed to comply with international safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards. Every energizer product developed by Gallagher is tested in New Zealand laboratories accredited by IANZ (International Accreditation New Zealand). Gallagher is constantly reviewing these standards to ensure our products are compliant.

As recognized industry experts in energized fencing technology, Gallagher is an invited member of the Global Standards Committee which develops and updates energized fencing safety standards.
