Download Case StudyFounded in 1957, Watters Electrical is one of regional Victoria and southern New South Wales’ most respected electrical contracting companies.
With offices in Albury, Shepparton, and Wangaratta, Watters Electrical employs approximately 250 local staff and is one of the largest employers of apprentices in the region. The company supports around 70 young men and women through apprenticeships and traineeships reflecting its dedication to nurturing local talent and ensuring the future strength of the electrical and security industries.
Watters Electrical offers a wide range of services across the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, including solar and renewables solutions. Their expertise spans everything from basic domestic installations to advanced electrical engineering and automation.
Watters is often involved in major infrastructure and construction projects throughout regional Victoria and southern New South Wales. A proud member of the local community, their reputation for technical excellence and community support has made them a trusted name in the industry for over six decades.
However, the Watters’ Shepparton site was experiencing a disappointing spree of overnight break-ins, resulting in vandalism and theft.
Despite installing additional lighting and surveillance cameras, the incidents continued.
Staff vehicles were being targeted, tools stolen, and gates left unlocked due to miscommunication, highlighting the need to install a more proactive physical security solution.
And that’s when Watters Electrical’s long-standing relationship with Gallagher Security came into the mix.
Watters Electrical and Gallagher Security have proudly worked together since 2022.
Over the years, Watters have partnered with Gallagher on a wide range of local projects, delivering tailored security and communications solutions to meet the specific needs of each site and organisation.
So, it made sense for Watters Electrical to collaborate with Gallagher Security once again, but this time, to strengthen their own perimeter and internal access controls.
Cameron Shields, Communications and Security Specialist at Watters Shepparton, said the team had a good idea of which Gallagher products they wanted to use thanks to their knowledge of the brand.
Neil Jarvis, Sales Manager for Victoria and Tasmania, Gallagher Security, thoroughly enjoyed working with Watters Electrical on their site, and says the project came together quickly.
“The Watters Shepparton site deployed a fully integrated solution, which included some of Gallagher’s key perimeter products,” says Neil.

As a Gallagher Security Certified Channel Partner, Watters Shepparton took on the installation of the Monitored Pulse Fence themselves.
This on-site project provided a valuable opportunity for the team to collaborate and gain practical experience with Gallagher’s technology.
“The installation process was quite easy. It gave our trade staff a training opportunity to work on the Gallagher fence, which also supports their understanding of the system,” Cameron said.
The Shepparton site features Gallagher’s access control on electric gates, and both access control and intruder detection across office buildings and sheds.
The team required a solution that was both flexible and fit for purpose, and Cameron says the new perimeter and internal access control solution has significantly enhanced site security and streamlined access management.
Another key advantage the solution provided Watters was its ability to monitor their numerous remote storage sheds across the site. Instead of staff needing to walk around each night to check that all sheds were closed and locked, the system allowed them to remotely see which sheds were secured and which had been left open – greatly reducing the risk of a shed being left unlocked overnight.
“The Gallagher Monitored Pulse Fence creates a physical barrier deterring anyone from cutting our fence, and if they do, they would be deterred with a safe, short pulse and we would be alerted,” says Cameron.
“The solution is smart enough to tell the difference between a real threat and something like a possum or strong wind, which means we’re not wasting time on false alarms.
“The access control system has helped reduce incidents, improve operational efficiency, and simplify user administration.
“Having Gallagher solutions for the fence perimeter, gate access control, intruder detection, and building access controls gives us the advantage of a user-friendly system for our staff.
“Plus, it gives us a great demo site for showing our customers the Gallagher solutions,” says Cameron.
