Bogotá Energy Group

A sustainable partnership for a greener future

Download Case Study

Grupo Energía Bogotá (GEB), a leading energy company in Latin America, with the purpose of "Improving lives with sustainable and competitive energy", has a dedicated workforce of more than 2,300 employees in Colombia, Guatemala, Peru and Brazil.

Given the technological obsolescence of GEB’s existing electronic security systems, GEB began an analysis to understand trends in the electronic security market, thus defining the characteristics of access control and video surveillance systems required for their company today and in the future.

GEB’s Research:

GEB bases its security design on four pillars of the corporate strategy: a focused portfolio, digitization and innovation, agile government, and a positive environmental and social impact on the world.

The results of its analysis indicate that security systems must have:

  • Interoperability: A platform that can monitor all facilities from a single user interface. The system should allow the integration of building management systems such as video surveillance and access control systems based on BACnet and MODBUS building protocols.
  • Growth: A platform easily scalable for future company growth.
  • Portability: A platform managed by security teams from desktop computers or mobile devices.
  • Integration and development: A platform that supports integration through API with applications developed by the GEB.
  • Environmental impact: A platform that, thanks to its design, represents a positive environmental impact in the implementation, operation, and final disposal of waste.
  • Usability: An intuitive platform for the end user with minimum training needed.
  • Security: A platform to manage critical and non-critical sites, such as operation control centers or offices.
  • Cybersecurity: A platform with the highest cybersecurity standards in the market that does not allow for attacks on the critical infrastructure of GEB.

How Gallagher Security supports Grupo Energía de Bogotá

Gallagher Security uses Command Centre to support GEB requirements through:

Interoperability
The interoperability with different systems, seamless integration, and management of cameras with alarm management, including BACnet fire red devices on the main site.

Growth:
Support the growth of GEB’s security infrastructure by using security devices on GEB’s existing and new remote sites. For these remote locations with existing infrastructure limitations, Command Centre’s flexible architecture, this safe and secure remote site access control implementation is possible at a lower cost.

Portability:
GEB can now implement access control in remote headquarters nationwide with Gallagher’s Mobile Command Centre with any system except certain cellular equipment. Conventional access control would have been prohibitive in terms of installation costs.

Integration and Development:
Authorizations to enter headquarters nationwide are managed centrally. For this reason, the GEB developed a web application for entry to individual headquarters, visitor management, parking reservations, and collaborative workspaces. Gallagher’s Command Centre, through its API, was integrated with the application, automatically facilitating the management of access approvals to the headquarters without intervention from the physical security team.

Environmental impact:
With Gallagher's access control energy management, installing support batteries for doors was reduced by more than 50% compared to the traditional design of typical access control systems. Saving GEB from using more batteries greatly impacts implementation and energy consumption for daily operation and final waste.

Likewise, thanks to the implementation of digital credentials for access control, GEB no longer prints over 300 cards a year, with significant waste reduction represented by plastic and inks for users.

Usability:
Compared to previously used systems, End User training for Command Centre is straightforward; allowing for the database migration from GEB’s previous system of more than 600 users nationwide in less than 20 days.

Administrators and system operators state: “Gallagher Command Centre is easy to learn and use.”

Security:
Command Centre allowed GEB to configure different levels of security by site; incorporating biometrics when the highest level of security is required with multiple authentication factors using cellular credentials.

Cybersecurity:
GEB permanently monitors its computer assets and networks simultaneously with various cybersecurity tools. Since the implementation of the Gallagher system, no vulnerability has been reported in the ecosystem, showcasing Gallagher Security’s ongoing commitment to cybersecurity and the digital protection of its critical infrastructure.

Gallagher's Command Centre met and exceeded the needs of GEB, offering seamless system integration, support for remote locations, central management of access and security, significant reductions in environmental impact through energy-efficient practices, and robust cybersecurity measures. This partnership enables GEB to enhance its security infrastructure sustainably while supporting future growth and technological innovation.
