Following the devastating impacts of the Christchurch earthquakes, Shirley Boys’ High School and Avonside Girls’ High School suffered irreparable damage and were forced to look for new locations. The two secondary schools now share a state-of-the-art campus which caters for 2,500 students and 500 staff and is fully equipped with a range of facilities including theatres, sports fields, gymnasiums, and a library.
With brand new facilities, it was vital to select an intelligent security system to simplify site management and protect valuable assets. Additionally, Shirley Boys’ and Avonside Girls’ High School, required a security solution that supported rapid lockdown and evacuation response for the safety of students and staff.
The Gallagher solution
Gallagher’s Command Centre software and Broadcast Notifications feature provides Shirley Boys’ and Avonside Girls’ with a seamless emergency response solution that allows them to respond swiftly and accurately in an emergency.
The schools’ Gallagher solution has also been integrated with BACnet to streamline site operations and building automation, as well as FollowMePrinting which is linked to student and staff DESFire fobs for seamless print management.

The business value
By using the existing features within their Gallagher software, Shirley Boys’ and Avonside Girls’ were able to achieve an effective and safe lockdown response solution for less than a third of the cost of the proposed change in door design for their site.
