Waikato-based security manufacturer, Gallagher, is giving back to their local community, visiting local schools with Gallagher Chiefs players to encourage students to consider a career in the security technology industry.
The training sessions are being run with top rugby teams at selected schools and include rugby drills to develop players’ skills and a question-and-answer session. There is also an opportunity for students to hear from Gallagher representatives about career opportunities in the security industry.
“The security technology industry holds a wide range of exciting and rewarding career opportunities,” says Brad Small, Regional Sales Manager for Gallagher. “The New Zealand industry is growing, and it’s predicted an additional 6,000 people will be needed before the end of 2025. It’s exciting for us to have this opportunity to share our passion for security and hopefully inspire students to consider it as a future career.”
As part of their mission to raise awareness for security as a career pathway, in 2021 Gallagher worked with the New Zealand Security Association, who ran security career events at 10 lower-decile schools throughout the country, with people from the industry sharing their career experiences.
“We value opportunities like this to give back to our local community as part of our commitment to a better tomorrow,” says Brad. “Earlier this year we announced our partnership with the New Zealand Catholic Education Office, which sees us work with members to create operational efficiencies, better utilise facilities, and streamline the access of students, staff, and visitors.”
Manufactured locally at their head office in Hamilton, Gallagher’s award-winning access control, perimeter, and intruder alarm solutions are trusted to protect what matters most in more than 130 countries.
The first training event with the Gallagher Chiefs kicked off today at St Peter's School in Cambridge where players undertook drills with the 1st and 2nd XV rugby teams. Director of Rugby at St Peter's School, Carl Perry, said: “It was a great opportunity for the boys to mix with, and learn from, the Gallagher Chiefs players. Having players like Brodie Retallick, Shaun Stevenson, Mitch Jacobson, and Sione Mafileo in a school environment was pretty exciting.”
Further events will be held at schools throughout the Waikato later in May.
