Johannesburg, South Africa – St Vincent School for the Deaf will have a more reliable vehicle this winter, thanks to the recent donation of a new bakkie (utility vehicle) from Gallagher Security.
The school supports deaf learners from across the Gauteng province, with a proud history dating back 75 years and an impressive list of graduates. However, as fuel costs climb, the school has been forced to divert maintenance funds just to keep its vehicles running.
“Our current bakkie is on its last legs and almost at the point where the maintenance of the vehicle exceeds its value to us,” says St Vincent’s Principal, Winners Sheshenge.
“The donation reduces ongoing maintenance costs and strengthens the school’s capacity to serve its learners. When organisations give back, they help create an environment where our learners can thrive and reach their full potential, and we are incredibly grateful for Gallagher’s support.
“Gallagher’s donation will make a meaningful difference to our school. It allows us to focus our resources where they matter most, on education.”
Stepping in to support the school’s needs, Morne Grobler, General Manager – Africa, says the team is very proud to have supported the school.
“It’s a privilege to support the school in a way that removes barriers and supports opportunity, and members of the Africa team are looking forward to joining the school’s free sign language lessons.
“This initiative reflects Gallagher’s ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate, demonstrating that meaningful change can start with meeting real, everyday needs.”
