The challenge

The American University of the Middle East (AUM) in Egalia is the largest private university in Kuwait. Its extensive campus and beautiful grounds, including eight buildings, a sports center, theater, stadium, parking, administrative and service areas, and buildings under construction. The American College of the Middle East (ACM) is also hosted within the campus.

With sizeable grounds and multiple institutes of learning on site, AUM needed to ensure the right access was provided to the right people. With more than 800 employees, over 10,000 students and many visitors on site every day, the campus needed to be secure but easy to use, causing no inconvenience to students and staff.

The challenge was finding a dynamic solution that not only met their access control needs but also integrated with their core enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, providing efficiencies and operational cost benefits. The solution also had to be scalable to accommodate future growth.

The Gallagher solution

Gallagher’s access control solution, featuring Gallagher Command Centre and a range of intelligent integrations, was selected as the University’s preferred choice.

MIFARE contactless smart cards were provided to students, faculty and staff. Turnstiles installed at the entrances to AUM. Intelligent integrations with existing systems provided total control of movement, significantly reducing operational costs, creating efficiencies for staff and students and enhancing the overall security system.

The business value

Operational costs have been reduced wherever the Gallagher solution has been used on the AUM campus. Integration with the university’s human resources systems has improved productivity, with more efficient monitoring of staff access and attendance.

ERP, active directory, carpark and study room booking integrations help monitor university facilities and easily detect any misuse. Reporting functionality provided by Command Centre provides AUM with greater control and ability to meet audit requirements.
